Selective Laser Melting (SLM) process is one of the AM processes in which the metal parts are produced by melting the metal powder layer-by-layer. Overheating and heat accumulation in critical regions such as overhang surfaces are the important challenges in the SLM process. The real-time control of the process by monitoring the built chamber was one of the solutions that has been introduced in order to adjustment of melt pool size in the critical regions.

Two projects have been defined on SLM process in Additive Manufacturing Lab:

Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) is one of its kinds among additive manufacturing technologies by which polymeric 3D parts are directly manufactured layer by layer via extruding the semi-molten raw material through a nozzle over the platform. Unique advantages such as simplicity of operation, wide applicable range of enduring and stable polymeric material, and manufacturing complex geometric shapes with the lowest waste of cost and time –compared with other techniques of additive manufacturing- have made this process in the center of utmost attention in recent years.

Additive Manufacturing Lab (AM Lab) has been established at Isfahan University of Technology since August 2012. This is lab one of the first in its kind in the country and has focused on some of the main topics of Additive Manufacturing.
