Selective Laser Sintering Process

Selective laser sintering (SLS) is an additive manufacturing process which uses laser surface heating to induce consolidation of powdered materials. This process has emerged from numerous other technologies as the leading process considered viable for Rapid Manufacturing based on its advantages. However, because of existence of laser beam and heating mechanism, some controlling activities take part during and after process finish such as preheating the surface of powder before consolidation process and maintaining the building part bin in high temperature close to powder melt temperature to reduce warpage and cracks. But there are some issues about the mechanical properties of parts producing with this method.

In one study on SLS process, the goal is to investigate the effect of heating regime during and after process on mechanical properties of PA12 parts. To achieve the purposes, different heating and cooling methods will be examined and the results will be reported as the effect of process thermal history on parts mechanical properties such as tensile stress.
